MRS. HOWARD’S FIRST GRADE CLASSROOM

“My name is Christy Howard and I am a proud first grade teacher in Colorado! I have some big loves in life, including travel, photography, and teaching.  I am fortunate to have my best friend and husband who likes to go on adventures with me. He even puts up with my stuffed rabbit, Moffat, that travels with us for educational purposes. He’s a rather amazing man!

One of my biggest passions is sharing history and stories with my students, stories of people from all walks of life.  The four walls that encircle my classroom are filled with an enormous timeline of US “history makers” as I like to call them.  This anchor chart is the one teaching tool that I could not do without in my classroom.  It drives instruction and promotes endless questioning from my students.  They are making constant connections to the timeline through stories, primary sources, and our daily calendar reflections.  Aside from meeting many literacy and social studies standards, I am simultaneously able to meet many math standards.  The gift that both my students and I have been given by Nikki’s art in the classroom is immeasurable and my classroom would not be what it is without her.  I am forever grateful for her talent and the friendship that has ensued over the years as we collaborate to create a richer classroom environment.”

DR. SANDS’ LIBRARY

“Hi from Southeast Georgia! My name is Melissa Sands and all my little kids call me Mrs. Dr. Sands. Cutest thing ever. I’ve been married for close to 30 years to a state police agent (GBI). We have one son that is graduating from Georgia Southern University with a Masters degree in mechanical engineering in a few weeks. I certainly can’t leave out my 10 year old fur baby, Lincoln, because he runs our house.

I taught 4th and 5th grades for 5 years and computer lab for half a year. Then I was offered a media center at another school in the same county. After I started, I went back to school to get my Instructional Technology degree to be considered highly qualified as a School Library Media Specialist. I added on my sixth year and doctorate degrees and I’ve been in this same center for 23.5 years.

My media center was renovated in 2020, just as Covid hit hard. When I found out I was getting a remodel, I knew I was going to have a Melonheadz Center. I would venture to guess that I have more personalized Melonheadz than most addicts, including my family, my fur baby, my phenomenal paraprofessional, media center mascot, friends at my school and over 20 of myself. LOL I am truly addicted.

I’m often tasked with creating items for my school because they know I’m going to make it super cute with all my Melonhead sets. I have been an Addict for years and use a lot of the sets in my Oh So Random TpT store. Although I don’t design as much these days because my photography business takes up most of my extra time, I stay stocked up on many of the new sets for when I have some extra time. LOL I also use my personalized sets to make the cutest gift tags. The possibilities are endless! My students absolutely love when we do book challenges and this week we have one going on! Students put a sticky note up on their designated window when they pass an AR test creating a hall rainbow by the end of the week. “

Meet Melissa and her sweet family!
